The Tāne Run Community was created as part of a broader commitment to improving the wellbeing of tāne across the region, with a focus on fostering healthier lifestyles, stronger connections, and positive habits that reduce alcohol and drug-related harm. As part of this commitment, we aim to:

  • Promote healthy, active lifestyles among all men, with a focus on delivering through Māori and Pacific cultural values.
  • Reduce alcohol-related harm by encouraging early Saturday and Sunday morning physical activity and accountability.
  • Build connection through consistency, shared goals and cultural values.
  • Foster a movement where wellbeing, discipline, and positive identity are central to what it means to be a tāne.

Through consistent participation, the Tāne Run Community aims to make an impact on the wider Tauranga community by:

  • Empowering tāne to make better lifestyle choices.
  • Increasing men’s accessibility to mental health and addiction support.
  • Strengthening community cohesion and connection.
  • Providing visible, positive masculinity tāne role models for the younger generation in our whānau and communities.
  • Reducing alcohol-related harm and improving health outcomes.
  • Celebrating cultural pride.

We have been funded by Le Va Pasifika to increase tāne access to mental health and addiction clinical servcies, deliver 4x Tāne Wellbeing Wānanga, and 4x Community Connection Events. Keep up to date on our socials!

Walkways connect the playground to the nearby Koikoi Reserve and Matatu Reserve which provide open spaces for family picnics or to stop and enjoy the lakeside views. Swings and public toilets are located at Matau Reserve.

The walkway extends to Lakeview Quay and runs parallel to Takitimu Drive to connect back to Caslani Reserve.
