Tom Atkinson

Kia ora, I’m based in Rotorua and work as a clinical supervisor for people working in the mental health, addictions, health, and social service sectors. Outside of work, I love getting out on the trails in Whakarewarewa Forest, finding good coffee spots, and spending time with my wife and lively young daughter. I really value balance, connection, and making space for the things that keep us grounded — and those values carry through into the way I work with people professionally.

I aim to create a supervision space that feels relaxed, supportive, and authentic. My approach is reflective and collaborative, with a focus on helping practitioners feel supported in both their professional growth and personal wellbeing. I know the work we do can be rewarding, challenging, and sometimes heavy, so I value offering a space where people can talk openly, reflect honestly, and feel encouraged.

I have nearly a decade of experience working in mental health and addictions across primary mental health, inpatient, and correctional settings, supporting both adults and young people. My work is grounded in evidence-based practice and supported by postgraduate study in Alcohol and Drug Studies through the University of Auckland, alongside postgraduate training in Psychology through the University of Waikato.

I provide supervision for DAPAANZ practitioners, offering a warm and supportive space for reflection, growth, and ongoing professional development
